Choice is a funny thing. They say you always have a choice. Nothing and no one can take it from you.
No matter how hard you want to.
You make choices every day and sooner or later you regret you made some of those choices. You want to be able to turn back time but you just can’t. You regret the mistakes you made and you want to make things right but there is no way to do it. You want to change and become a better person but it’s just too late.
That’s when you understand that choice is not something you just make. There are consequences. Instead of a blessing it is a curse. And it is not a choice between wrong and right, between good and evil. No. More often than not, you must choose between two rights or two wrongs. And you can’t just step back and make no choice at all, life just forces you to do it even when you know that later on you are going to regret it. Slowly but surely you begin to hate yourself.
Every once in a while some wise guy would just show up and say to me jauntily: “Your own choices brought you where you are. There’s no one else to blame but yourself.” And every time I feel like smashing his face with something rusty. But you know what? He is right. There really is no one else to blame.
Sad, isn’t it?
